I love the Designer Creations line as they provide great inexpensive packaging that coordinate perfectly with our other products.  As Christmas is coming up next month, I choose the Z2038 Designer Creations Ruby paper bags.  I wanted to create a card on the outside of the bag, with space inside to hold a gift made from our Base and Bling line.

I made the card from our new Cricut Artfully Sent collection .  I used the scene card on page 49 using Glacier and White Daisy cardstock, both cut at 5".  I also used the larger snowflake leftover from cutting the scene card on page 47 (also at 5").  I heat embossed the large snowflake with the versamark ink, Princess Gold embossing powder and the Craft Heater.  The top of the bag was embellished with the Gold Polka-Dot washi tape.

Inside is a pendant necklace made from our base and bling line.  To hold the necklace I used a 5"X4" of black cardstock and a 4"X3" piece a B&T paper from the Yuletide Carol Paper Packet.  I used the corner rounder on the black cardstock and placed slits to hold the necklace.  The remainder of the chain was contained with extra washi tape on the back.

The pendant necklace was made with Z1954 Faux Antiqued Gold Chain, Z1963 Faux Antiqued Gold Square Pendant, Z1967 Square Glass Cover, Z1959 Storyteller Charms and and Z1973 Storyteller Style sheet.  The glass cover was attached with Z679 Liquid Glass.

Gift cards and gift certificates have become very popular for Christmas. birthday and teacher gifts.  But they tend to look boring and not very personal.  I have been creating different and unique ways to package gifts certificates and to offer them as a fun workshop for my customers.  I've seen the coffee cup gift card holders on pinterest and YouTube. These are  perfect for a gift card from your recipients favourite coffee house.  This one was inspired by my CTMH sisters Dawn Montagano and Chantal Pearson.

Some of my customers would prefer to give a gift card to their children's teachers for their favourite smoothie bar.  So I created this alternative:

And finally, I also sell premium loose leaf tea and designed this to hold a gift certificate for the recipients choice of tea.  This could be given with an infuser or other small items.

I've had a lot of fun creating Halloween goodies this year.  I chose the Frightfully Fun stamp set, the Cricut Artiste Collection and Shin Han Touch Twin Markers to create my projects.  My first creation was the coffin.  

These used the 4.5" 3D Object on page 76.  The design on the coffin top was done using random stamping.  The accent is the zip strip from the Scaredy Cat paper packet.  The boxes were held together with bonding memories and liquid glass.  I also used liquid glass to make the skeleton face shiny.

My next project was pencil toppers.  For these I used 2" and 2.25" Accent 2<x>  (p. 62).  I inked the edges of the colonial white with Thistle or Sunset ink and attached the topper to the pencils with glue dots.

My third project was candy bag toppers.  They were cut with 4" Shift_Accent 4 <Give Thanks> (p.78).  The black shape was  cut from 2" Card <Halloween> (p. 77).  The white daisy is just a 1.25" circle punch.

For my layout this month, I decided to scrapbook my first Convention with Close To My Heart in Washington DC, 2010.  One thing I love about Close To My Heart is sharing all kinds of creativity and ideas with other consultants.  This started on our consultant bulletin board 10 years ago and now I see everyone's beautiful artwork in my newsfeed on facebook.  I decided it would be fitting to create a layout based on this daily inspiration, this one inspired by Susan William's Balloon Ride workshop from last spring.  

I used a combination of different new paper packs: Chalk It Up, Confetti Wishes and Wanderful.  I also used the silver glitter paper from the Black and Grey Glitter Paper along with Whisper, White Daisy and Black cardstock.

I really love the sun burst technique used in this layout.  Many other consultants have created artwork using this technique and I was inspired to make some cards this past summer.  I used vintage Close To My Heart paper, flowers and brads for these cards.

Close To My Heart recently launched it's new Annual Inspirations Idea Book, so several of my blog posts have referred to my favourite things. This often reminds me the song "My Favourite Things" from The Sound of Music.  I saw a local production as a child and I'm sure I've seen the movie over 30 times. 

As mentioned previously, I spent a year in Ireland with my husband and two children in 2008-2009. We took advantage of the cheap air fare and explored other parts of Europe during school breaks.  In May 2009, I planned a trip and tried to incorporate something for everyone. I really wanted to visit Salzburg and I just had to take my family on Fräulein Maria's Bicycle Tour.  It was a great tour and we were able to see a lot of the sights from the movie.

I love watching the Love Your Layout videos From Close To My Heart.  When I saw one using the Lucky paper and My Stickese, I knew it would be perfect for my layout.  One great thing about creating in Studio J is that you can change the size of your stickese and you can also use multiples.  This is particularly great for my title, where I used them for "BICYCLE".  I also had the choice of colour for each letter.  I did make changes from the video to suit my pictures and theme.

This post continues the tutorial shown in my previous post.  This time I am using the sponge and the blending pen with the Exclusive Ink Pads to colour my image.  I will be using some of my favourite new products to complete my card.  

I used the chocolate mini pigment ink that comes with the Z2503 Basics set to stamp the image from A1157 Quick Cards - Island Greetings.  I used our sponge to apply ink in two of my favourite new colours Glacier and Thistle.  You can use the sponge whole or cut it into wedges.  

Next used the blending pen with the Topiary stamp pad to colour in the stems and buds.  I continued to sponge over the image with Desert Sand stamp pad.

I assembled my card using the  Make It From Your Heart Volume 2, Pattern 30.  Other favourite new products I used were the Paper Fundaments Whimsey Assortment and the Silver Sequins Assortment.  Cardstocks used were White Daisy, Kraft and  Topiary.

To meet the needs of my customers, I offer workshop kits by mail.  This idea was inspired by Dawn Montagano.  These kits include the stamp set supplies and instructions (not ink) to complete a minimum of 4 projects and cost $25 including postage to you.  This month's kit features 6 all occasion quick cards and also includes my cutting guide.  Participants can choose any of our Quick Card sets, but I have chosen A1157 Quick Cards - Island Greetings

When working with alcohol markers, the best choice of ink for stamping the image is Archival Black, however the regular Exclusive Ink stamp pads and Exclusive Ink Mini Pigment stamp also work well and provide more colour choice.  You just want to give the ink time to dry or use the craft heater.   I have chosen to use the saddle mini pigment ink that comes with the Z2503 Basics set.  

For this workshop, there are various options to colour in the image.  But I have chosen to focus on using the ShinHan Touch Twin markers for this tutorial.  I want to show some basic shading options that do not require you to use many marker colours.  Each of these options use just two colours for the flower and two for the stem.

I started by by making some flicking strokes with the Z2457 Marigold for the flower and 2463 Sap Green on the buds.

Next I went over the petals with the Z2452 Golden Yellow and finished the stem with with Z2454 Leaf Green.  You can also lighten areas with the Z2469 Colourless Blender Marker.

Here is another two marker combination for the flower, Z2464 Tender Pink with Z2455 Light Orange.  

I tried other combinations including 2458 Marine Blue and 2461 Peacock Green.  Here are my finished cards.  Some are coloured using sponging and the blending pen with the exclusive ink pads.  This will be shown in another tutorial.

Visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany - Tips and Money Savers in Bavaria

I decided to focus most of this post on travel tips.  Information on creating this layout in Studio J can be found at the end.  During my trip planning, I had to navigate a lot of information in German.  Luckily since then, many websites are now in English and if not Google chrome will do an automatic translation.

School in Ireland ran until the end of June, but the kids had no school the 1st week of June.  We decided after much discussion to explore Germany, Austria and Switzerland.  This required flying out of Dublin to Salzburg, Austria and back through Basel, Switzerland.  This was booked on Ryanair, but after scheduling our whole trip, including non-refundable hotel in Salzburg, we were notified that Ryanair would not be flying to Salzburg.  I booked an Aer Lingus flight to Munich, Germany for the day before.

We decided that we would spend that night in Hohenschwangau, Germany and see the amazing Neuschwanstein castle.  Germany offers money saving regional day tickets which work on all regional train, bus and subway travel after 9am on weekdays, midnight on weekends/holidays.  The one for Bavaria was €28 for 2-5 people, the price now varies depending on how many are travelling.  This was great as the pass covered the S-bahn from the airport to the train station, the trains from Munich to Füssen and the bus from Füssen and the Hohenschwangau.  Even those travelling on expensive Eurail passes had to pay extra for the bus.  I also bought a pass for the following day as the Salzburg train station is part of the Bavaria train network.

We arrived in Hohenschwangau shortly before 2:30pm, grabbed a some quick bratwurst and beer and checked into our hotel.  Tours for the Neuschwanstein castle can fill up fast.  I had decided to purchase the 14 day palace pass  (included Neuschwanstein and many other places in Bavaria, but not Hohenschwangau) for €36 (currently €40).  This also allowed us to take the next tour.  We walked up the castle, though you can also go up by bus and horse drawn carriage.  I purchased the palace pass and we were put on the next English tour.  

The tour was great and it is the only way to see the castle.  Our guide was American.  After the tour, we walked to Marie's bridge (Marienbrücke) where you can take the best pictures.  Unfortunately, as you can see from the picture, that side had scaffolding due to a multi-year renovation project.  We started to hear thunder and on our way down the hill, the skies opened up and we were drenched.  Near the bottom of the hill we found the Hotel Müller and decided to eat in their restaurant.     

The next morning we headed up to Hohenschwangau Castle.  We didn't take a tour; we just explored the courtyards and exterior.  We then took the bus to the Tegelbergbahn to ride the summer luge.  The Bavaria regional day ticket that we would be using to get to Salzburg, could also be used on this bus.  For the luge, we bought 6 adult tickets (€10.50) and 6 kids tickets (€9.50) so we had 3 rides each for a total of €20. Current prices and other information can be found here.  There was also a playground here with some free and coin operated rides as well as a canteen.  The luge was great fun. We were only there a little longer than an hour before taking the bus back. 

We grabbed a quick lunch, gathered our stuff from the hotel and took the bus to Füssen for our train. I had a bit of time at the station and managed to find a grocery store to pick up a few things for our trip.  During the half hour stop in the massive Munich Hbf train station, we picked up dinner to eat on the train to Salzburg. The train from Munich to Salzburg was direct but the whole train doesn’t go that far.  Everyone on our set of cars had to get up and move to the other half.  In Salzburg, we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Imlauer which was an easy walk from the train station.

Notes: This layout was based instructions provided for a Close To My Heart Regional Celebration for consultants.  However, I made change to colours and photo orientation to suite my photos.  Buttercup and Grey Wool are not current colours, so if you choose my colours, you will have to substitute canary and slate.  The argyle pattern was created with a lot of journaling boxes and dashes.  Studio J now has an easy stitching option under embellishments.

Like all Picture My Life Kits, it includes:

One gift I like to make is the layered cookie mix in a jar.  Some of the cards in this kit make great tags for the jar.
